What is the OpenData Collector?

What is the OpenData Collector?

  •  is the Windows based data collection application that provides communication with devices, normalizes the data and reports the data back to the main OpenData application.
  • Communication with the main application database is encrypted. (Blowfish)
  • "OpenData Collector" refers collectively to one overall Collector installation.
  • The Collector consists of the Collector Host, and one or more Collector Instances.
  • One host can support up to 16 collector instances.
  • Collector instances have a low resource overhead.
  • The collector host can be installed on a Virtual Machine.
  • It can run on any version of windows that can run Java 1.8. (Prior versions ran under Java 1.6).
  • The Collector supports multiple protocols including SNMP, Modbus Serial, Modbus TCP, BACnet, RFCode, and other device protocols.
  • Each instance of the collector communicates with a single protocol, but the Collector Instances on one Collector Host can each use a different protocol.
  • The Collector includes a Modius Database protocol, which allows it to access device point data from across your enterprise. This allows you to create virtual devices and calculated points from physical devices that may be on separate collectors, or in separate physical locations. For example you could calculate company wide PUE by aggregating the PUE from multiple sites.
  • The Collector is sometimes referred to as the PCDG.
